DER finds accidents through many sources.  If it meets DER criteria, we work up an Early Warning file with all available data.  

DER Criteria:

· No alcohol-unless potential case against drunk driver

· Restraints used

· Fatal or serious/incapacitating injury

· Possible product issue– tire down, door opens, ejection with belt use, etc,

· Child restraint issues

· Construction zone/Road defects

· Heavy Truck accidents

 

While DER cannot get to all of them, we list them on the Links to Online News page.  If we investigate, we put the data on the Early Warning page.

Data includes: News Articles, Scene Inspection photographs,  Vehicle (s) Inspection photographs, Scene Diagrams, Vehicle Inspection Worksheets, Accident Reports and, in some cases, MAIT Reports .

Initially, DER will accept requests via e-mail and reply (same day if possible) with CD/DVD of data with invoice.

Eventually, DER hopes to create a secure login page with PayPal or credit card, and download capabilities.
